The ice bucket challenge was initially intended to raise
awareness of the disease ALS and encourage donations towards research.

Joey De Leon has something to say |
I must say it was one of those thoughtful ideas which
weren’t quite thought, it resulted in a
waste of water as well. It didn’t really generate many donations as many people
opted to (when nominated) do the ice bucket challenge instead of donating so
it unfortunately became a social activity which people took part in for the
views and likes. Thus forgetting the core reason which was raising funds for
research.

How the ice bucket challenge affects some people |
However I think that the ice water bucket challenge is a fun challenge to partake in but, it is only normal for people to have fun in an environmentally friendly way. Humour is needed amongst human beings but sometimes you will find out that other people will not react as expected towards the challenge hence these people pour water on anyone which is totally wrong. Yes it is fun making other people look stupid but it is not fun when violence then takes place cause such things cause conflict among people. Besides conflict and all water being wasted! I mean… come to think that some people out there do not have water then you find that one fool who decides to go around throwing water on people’s heads. I think it would be advisable if everyone appreciated water and used it for all the good reasons.

i do think that this a good idea, and i don't think it was a waste of water. i do however think that South Africa doesn't use social media as they do in the States, that's why they made so much money there, because they know how to use social media. meanwhile here in SA, we don't utilize it to our advantage.
ReplyDeleteI still think he Ice bucket challenge was a very good campaign to begin with cause it still funded sick patients. But I also believe we could rather also have funded poor people whom does not have water ,to help them get the basic needs.
ReplyDeleteThe ice bucket challenge was never a waste of water at all, it is one of the greatest campaigns that trended in history. Such a great eye opener.
ReplyDeleteThe ice bucket challenge was a success, but some individuals misinterpreted the whole focus of the ice bucket challenge they practically used it to pull a publicity stunt honestly speaking....
ReplyDeleteTrue Dori I agree with you with the fact that we did not use social media correctly and to our advantage as appose to the people over seas but I still say that we wasted a lot of water because there are places in SA with no clean water which shows how ignorant we can be with the most important source of our life
ReplyDeleteThat's so True Antie it did help a lot of people but I still think instead of throwing water on our heads we could have given it to people in need of water.
ReplyDeleteThank you, for your comment Buhle but although it was a great campaign on social media in means of trending but it did not generate a lot of money as anticipated because people participated in it for fun and not to help the sick showing that it was not successful in SA
ReplyDeleteSamke I could not agree with you more, people did not participate in it for the right reasons and yes we can say it was a publicity stunt to draw attention to themselves and not the sickly.
ReplyDeleteI agree Noluthando, who on earth would build such a big house using the states money;I mean really...this situation upsets me so much because South Africa has so many problems where that money could have made a difference!got my blood all boiling Lol...
ReplyDeleteLOL Courts that's so true why could he not use the money to upgrade schools and roads lol or he could have used the money to pay the etoll system for every one, it shows that his ignorant about what is happening in his own county.
ReplyDeleteThe ice bucket challenge created awareness for sure but did it raise money for ALS
ReplyDeleteHey Gcina that's so true but it was not successful in SA because people did not donate but they participated in the challenge.
ReplyDeleteI like the photo you embed. I agree, people should not nominate or take part in the challenge if they fully know that they will not donate.
ReplyDeleteThank you Aya that shows that people took part for publicity nothing more nothing less.
